Bloom by Mok Mok
An aggressively Instagrammable cafe in Mount Austin wrapped in floral decor. The food holds up surprisingly well against the gimmick, though the highly-advertised ceiling flowers are occasionally missing in reality.
The Insider Review
Bloom by Mok Mok aggressively courts the social media crowd. The interior is famously draped in florals and features photogenic swing chairs and a convex mirror wall tailor-made for selfies. However, inconsistency strikes—some diners report arriving to find the ceiling bare of the promised hanging flowers, severely dampening the much-hyped ambiance. For an establishment selling an aesthetic, this is a glaring failure.
Fortunately, the kitchen rescues the experience. The menu is surprisingly capable. The Burnt Tomato Pasta 焦香番茄意面 is frequently cited as the standout dish, while the Squid Ink Risotto 墨鱼汁意大利炖饭 nails the flavor profile despite polarizing textures. The Prawn Sando 鲜虾三明治 packs a punch with a rich, bisque-like tom yum sauce. For a classic bite, the Beef Burger 牛肉汉堡 served on a soft brioche bun arrives piping hot and satisfying.
Beverage and dessert game is equally strong. The Matcha Latte 抹茶拿铁 leans earthy and strong, bypassing the overly milky trap. The Crème Brûlée Iced Coffee 焦糖布丁冰咖啡 and Bloom Coffee 招牌咖啡 offer excellent foam-to-coffee ratios, though the latter can lean sweet. Don't skip the Souffle 舒芙蕾, which earns rave reviews. Parking in the Mount Austin grid is characteristically stressful, but the well-executed food makes this more than just an influencer trap.
